Kalsia State, Copper Paisa, 16.82g, Sikh Chieftaincies, issued by Sardar Jodh Singh (1785-1818 AD), Dehra Raja Mint (Chhachhrauli) Mint, INO Shah Alam II, AH 1215/42 RY. Dehra Raja may be identified with Dehra which is presently known as Dehra Dun. The area around Dehradun was raided by Gujjars, Rajputs, Sikhs and Gurkhas prior to its eventual Nepalese conquest which lasted for almost a decade. It’s known that the Sikh rulers at Kalsia (Chhachrauli) struck coins copied designs of copper issue of Awadh/Rohilla prototypes and this coin bears similar characteristics. Could be a Sikh issue. KM 32. Very Fine, Very Rare. |
