Victoria Queen, Silver, Half Rupee, 1862, Calcutta Mint, A/II, The Queens jabot has a 4 complete panels with a small 'V' raised in the centre of the bust, Round Pearls, Inclined 1, 5 petals flower has raised veins in centre of the petals. F. Prid 254. GK 369. Very Fine, Cleaned. Rare. (In Numismatics, Mule coins have held a particular fascination for collectors because they are produced from unusual pairings of obverse and reverse dies. The standard combination used in the Calcutta mint for its 1862 1/2 Rupees was Obverse A dies with the reverse I die and Obverse C dies in conjuction with Reverse II dies. In exceptional and rarely seen instances, the dies were mixed, and Obvese A dies were used in conjuction with Reverse II as in the present coin. The 1862 Cal 1/2 Re AII is usually referred to as a Mule or a Transitional Mule.) |
