Awadh, Gold Ashrafi, 10.68gm, Brijis Qadr, Suba Awadh Mint, AH 1229/RY 26. Brijis was a Nawab-Wajir who became independent during the first war of Independence the Mutiny of 1857 and issued silver and gold coins in the name of the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II. The rebel Birjis Qadr struck coins in imitation of earlier Awadh issues. The original issues were struck with the mint name Muhammadabad Banares, while those of Qadr have Awadh at the top of the reverse and Subah at the bottom, both usually off flan. KM 390. Estimate
